Production Peer Assessment

STRENGTHS

The emotions that you wish to evoke will make a really good impact on the audience, linking the film  with the music will make it quite emotional for the viewer and they will walk away realising the harsh reality of the quake.

The use of the woman being interviewed will be a different perspective that people haven't seen too much. we will be shown her amazing story which will have a strong impact on the viewer.

WEAKNESSES

It could be quite generic, and some of the pictures we may have seen before. Try get some unique footage that is new to the viewer.

Try make the soundtrack flow, or else it might sound quite messy.

QUESTIONS

How are you going to record the audio to ensure it is easy to understand, particularly during the interview?

Where will you film the news bulletin and how will it flow through to the rest of the movie?

3. Horror movies: Task three -Dicuss

The convention of the movie Psycho was effective because it scared me, the convention of the movie Scream is the same as Psycho.
Psycho was a low-budget film but i recon most low-budget film make the best movies and they have this edge of scaring you more. Scream had become the highest-grossing slasher in the US in unadjusted dollars by earning itself $173 million worldwide.
How does the director's use of the convention reflect current events of the time?
This convention hadn't changed that much from Psycho being one of the first horror movies with the knife as a weapon to Halloween using that as a weapon and Scream the knife hadn't change and those were the three movies we talked and discussed very close about.
It kind of scared you a little maybe you shouldn't sleep before marriage and steal money then go stay in a motel in the middle of nowhere or have sex, talk about having sex, drink or do drugs or you will die! so that kind of scared the young teenagers and made them look and decide not to do what they are doing or be more careful

2. Horror movies: Task two - Explain

Most of the horror movies were made after the movie “Psycho”as some scene were really similar to "Scream" as they used the knife, falling down the stairs, revealing the killer at the end, and a lot more other little details that you see are in these two movies.

This convention was used by the killer to kill the victims and it is really not a nice why to get liked because it HURTS. It just puts the movie together because a knife just scares you as a person. The idea we as a Media Studies class got that it is a phallic meaning and the idea behind the knife's meaning is funny but kind of true if you think of it. It doesn't really reveal a big attitude to the director just that he knows how to make you SCARED. "Weinstein explained that although he agreed with their assessment that the film was "intense", the film also had comedic elements and satire; it was not just a horror film glorifying violence. The MPAA reviewed their decision; shortly thereafter the film was granted an R rating." The audience loved this movie because it gives you a real scary and the way the CONVENTION was used good as the weapon that killed all the victims, and the film makers think it was to the audience's expectations as the made other movies after that Scream 1, 2, 3 and 4 and they made some remake's of Psycho too.

These two horror movies PSYCHO and SCREAM was and still is a classical horror!

HORROR MOVIES!!

1. Horror movies: Task one - Convention.

PSYCHO

First one am going to do is “Psycho” because it was the first movie where they start to use a KNIFE that means a phallic symbol in the horror movies “Psycho”, “Halloween” and “Scream”. Those where the three movies that we watched that really scared me in a way meaning that you don’t know what is going to happen next because in “Psycho” the main character was killed off first and that kind of made a big twist that you don’t know what’s happening next because when “Marion takes a shower at the Bates Motel, she is metaphorically cleansing away her sins because she already decided to return home with the money”, this quote is from The Ultimate Film Guide. When she is in the shower the camera keeps cutting to the shower head and then to her face and you wanting to know what’s going to happen but then threw the shower curtain you can see someone coming with a KNIFE and then the killer opens the curtain and Marion screams and the person stabs her and just keeps stabbing her till she dies because of losing to much, after that he cleans the bathroom and wraps her up in the shower curtain and stuffs her in the car and dumps the car in a swamp.

SCREAM

Now the second movie am going to do is “Scream” and scream is a pretty good movie because it was really scary because the killer would phone you then ask you what is you favourite horror movie and if you answer him right or wrong you still die because in the end of the first Scream movie Billy Loomis says “the best of this is when we ask you a question and you get it wrong you die and IF you get it right you die anyway!” this what Billy told Sydney at the end then he tries to kill her but she wins at the end.

Zombieland - Directed by Ruben Fleischer

Film Terminology - Sound

As the opening starts all you can hear and see are the sound of alarms going off from buildings, cars and then you have cars crashing into other cars or into buildings and you have people screaming out for help and with all these sounds put together make this movie really good. They are also trying to tell us that America has been taken over by zombies and the world is going to end soon. All these sounds put together make you worry, because you don't know what to expect and will become of America and the WORLD!

Zombieland - Directed by Ruben Fleischer

Film Terminology - Shot size/angle + camera movement

In the opening scene the first thing I saw was the camera unfocused but it starts to focus slowly then you see the camera upside down next to the limozine with the American flag on it, then it cause more to a landscape view of the capital building in Washington DC with smoke coming out and the limozine on the side of the of the screen upside down on fire then it looks like the person with the camera gets attacked by a zombie and then the and then he zombie comes closer to the camera in a close up mode and you see how guts off the of the camera man’s face falling out and he takes some out of his mouth with his finger and then the zombie BURPS! And just after that the camera goes in a bird’s eye view and it keeps zooming out till you the earth and you see how damaged it really is! Then the camera zooms back into earth and it goes start to a football field with have chubby guy chasing a really fat guy and when they are running a rule pops up that says CARDIO and cardio is rule number one, and it just goes from rule to rule.

Zombieland - Directed by Ruben Fleischer

Film Terminology - Music

The music is one of the most important things of a film, as it sets in as the rules begin to show up in the opening, it starts off as being soft so you can here the main character here talk but slowly it starts to build up and then the music starts rolling and it is good.

Music in the opening of this movie is a lot of rock and roll music in the background that is being played by Metallica “For whom the bell tolls” to set the mood because it’s so violent when zombies are running after people and trying to eat them and that somehow makes everything fit in place because it’s such a violent beginning where people are dying and cars crashing but them music just puts everything together

zombieland

 Genre/Aatmosphere - Zombieland

In the opening scene the first thing I saw was the camera unfocused but it starts to focus slowly then you see the camera upside down next to the limozine with the American flag on it, then it cause more to a landscape view of the capital building in Washington DC with smoke coming out and the limozine on the side of the of the screen upside down on fire  then it looks like the person with the camera gets attacked by a zombie and then the and then he zombie comes closer to the camera in a close up mode and you see how guts off the of the camera mans face falling out and he takes some out of his mouth with his finger and then the zombie BURPS! The opening of Zombieland the mood is sad, violent, and scary, some parts are really gross.
They created this mood by, just for example: zombies were biting and eating humans that they can find and by just one little bite that human can change it a blood sucking zombie like the rest of them, if they do they have these huge scares on their face, hands and body, they also have blood shot eyes that is really creepy and scary but really good make-up they have done. They also make zombies chase people and you watch how they eat them, there are lots of loud noises too, with that cars are crashing behind them with that people are shouting for dear life!

Zombieland directed by Ruben Fleischer

Reason for selection

The opening of this film the main character (Colombia) talks about the rules you need to know if your world gets taken over by zombies. At the begin it shows how America was damaged by zombies it also shows how it’s an epidemic was broken out in America. It shows how cars are on top each other or upside down and buildings behind it on fire or breaking down, alarms going off, every rule Colombia says show an example of it, it also shows how cars are having accidents, spinning out of control and zombie running around trying to find people so they can eat them as they were very hungry BUT humans don’t look were they are running and get eaten by zombies.

During the film each time something happens like a zombie comes out to eat somebody a rule will show up. Then, what Colombia told you in the beginning of the opening scene happen – the zombie comes out to eat him the rule pops up and he does what the rule says.

This movie appealed to me because I like comedies and this was a funny movie because they tried so hard to make everything look real and it did but I know it is not real, but how the guy tries to survive the epidemic he runs into trouble every corner he turns and its funny how he survives every time but at the end of this film you realise it’s a really good movie with good actors in it too.
